Since the beginning of 2025, 82 road traffic accidents caused by bus drivers have been recorded in Nizhny Novgorod. As a result of these crashes one person died and another 102 sustained injuries of varying severity, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region reported.
According to it, in order to reduce the number of accidents and improve discipline among public transport drivers, the city’s State Traffic Inspectorate carried out a two-day operational and preventive event called “Bus.”
During the raid 68 traffic violations were identified. The most frequent were driving a bus with the door open and ignoring seat belt rules.
Administrative records have been drawn up in all cases and those responsible have been held to account. In addition, inspectors found 10 buses with technical defects, five of which were towed to a specialized impound lot.
The State Traffic Inspectorate also inspected two Nizhny Novgorod motor transport enterprises. Based on the results, five notifications were sent to the Interregional Territorial Directorate of the Federal Service for Transport Supervision for the Volga Federal District.
Earlier it was reported that on September 18 a minibus and a passenger car collided on Kosmonavta Komarov Street in Nizhny Novgorod. According to preliminary data, both drivers ignored a prohibitory traffic light signal and entered the intersection. It was also reported that the prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the road traffic accident.
