      An elderly woman from Nizhny Novgorod was killed under the wheels of a car in the Prioksky district. This was reported by the Road Traffic Safety Promotion Department of the Traffic Police (OGIBDD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Nizhny Novgorod.

      The fatal crash occurred on the evening of September 24 at the 441st kilometer of the Ryazhsk–Kasimov–Murom–Nizhny Novgorod highway. The 69-year-old woman was crossing the road at an unregulated pedestrian crossing when she was hit by a 40-year-old driver behind the wheel of a VAZ-21074. The pensioner died at the scene.

      According to preliminary information, the cause of the accident was the driver's violation of the rules for passing a pedestrian crossing. An additional factor affecting the outcome, police said, was the lack of reflective elements on the woman, which made her less visible at night.

      At present, traffic police officers continue to determine all the circumstances of the incident.

      Earlier it was reported that a truck fatally struck a cyclist in the Leninsky district.
