      The Federation Council unanimously elected 49-year-old Igor Krasnov as Chairman of the Supreme Court. This was reported by representatives of the press service of the upper chamber of parliament.

      Shortly thereafter, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree relieving Krasnov of the post of Prosecutor General, reports the "360" TV channel.

      Alexander Gutsan, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Northwestern Federal District, has been appointed to that position. The decree on his appointment was published on the official legal information website.

      BACKGROUND:

      Igor Krasnov was born in 1975 in Arkhangelsk. He received a law degree from Pomor State University and began his career in the prosecutor's office in 1997. In 2007 he transferred to the Investigative Committee, which was then called the Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor's Office. During his service he rose through the ranks from senior investigator for particularly important cases to deputy head of the agency. He had held the position of Prosecutor General since 2020.

      Alexander Gutsan was born in 1960 in Leningrad Oblast. He graduated from Leningrad State University named after Zhdanov, which is now known as Saint Petersburg State University. He began his professional career in the prosecutor's office in 1987. Over the years he progressed from a department prosecutor responsible for supervising the handling of criminal cases in courts to deputy head of the supervisory authority. From 2007 to 2018 he served as Deputy Prosecutor General under Yuri Chaika. Since 2018 Gutsan had served as the presidential plenipotentiary envoy to the Northwestern Federal District.
