In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the duration of calls made over Wi‑Fi on Beeline's network increased 57-fold.

September 24, 2025 10:54 Society Residents of Nizhny Novgorod and other localities in the region have begun talking more via Wi‑Fi — the average call duration has increased 57-fold since last year, Beeline found. The Nizhny Novgorod region is also among the regions leading in the growth of average Wi‑Fi call duration.

Using wired internet for calls instead of base stations is made possible by VoWiFi* technology. It is relevant in situations when a cellular signal is impaired by interference but Wi‑Fi is available. With this option you can make calls and send SMS messages while the sound remains clear and the battery is used in power‑saving mode.

Among users of the feature, the largest shares are 35–45‑year‑olds (32%) and 45–55‑year‑olds (24%). Together they make up more than half of those who activated VoWiFi. Next are subscribers aged 55–65 with 16%, then younger adults 25–35 with 14%. Seniors aged 65–75 account for 8%, and the youngest group aged 15–25 accounts for only 2% of clients. At the same time men use the service almost 20% more than women.

Over the past year Beeline customers’ VoWiFi calls across the country have become 12% longer. Leading positions in the growth of average call duration are held by residents of Chukotka, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Kyzyl and Magadan.

The option also saves device battery and allows calling relatives abroad while roaming via available Wi‑Fi hotspots. Calls are charged according to the home tariff. For example, in the Nizhny Novgorod region Beeline customers spent on average more than 60,000 minutes per month on such conversations. To start using VoWiFi, simply activate the feature in your device settings. In addition, until the end of the year Beeline is running a promotion** — when connecting VoWiFi customers receive 100 free minutes for calls within the Russian Federation.
