
Zakhar Prilepin became the chairman of the Nizhny Novgorod Writers' Union.
September 23, 2025, 15:18 Culture and Leisure—Zakhar Prilepin elected chairman of the board of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the Union of Writers of Russia. The decision was made at a general meeting of the branch's members with the support of a consolidated majority, reports pravda-nn.ru.
The candidacy was proposed by the chairman and first secretary of the Union of Writers of Russia, Vladimir Medinsky. The initiative was agreed with Governor Gleb Nikitin.
At the same time, a board was formed. In addition to Zakhar Prilepin as chairman, it includes Oleg Ryabov, Dmitry Terentyev, Vladimir Bezdenezhnykh, Marina Kulakova, Alexander Myurisep and Oleg Zakharov.
The branch director, Nadezhda Shevelilova, named the top priorities: "raise the status of the writer in society, attract young people, hold as many meetings with readers as possible, actively participate in federal projects."
The current regional organization of the Union of Writers of Russia and the city branch will suspend their activities from next year.
Recall, in 2025 Prilepin released the novel "Tuma" (18+), which was highly praised by Governor Gleb Nikitin. At the book presentation it emerged that the writer has planned a film adaptation and a musical based on his new novel about Razin.
It was also reported that he is working on a pirate novel about Stepan Razin.
