In October, residents of Russia will be able to observe comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) with the naked eye. This was reported by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory (XRAS), the 360 TV channel reports.
Scientists note that the comet is showing a more rapid increase in brightness than previously thought. Over the next two weeks its brightness will reach magnitude 5, which will allow it to be seen with binoculars across the country.
Comet Lemmon was first discovered on January 3 of this year. It is currently approximately 200 million kilometers from Earth, but that distance is shrinking by five million kilometers daily.
In 10–14 days the comet will approach Earth to 150 million kilometers. Its minimum distance from our planet will be 90 million kilometers on October 21.
The peak brightness of comet Lemmon is expected at the end of November, when it will become visible to the naked eye with a magnitude of 2–4.
