Preserving the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland
The Museum of the History of the Children's Movement at the Palace of Children's Creativity in Dzerzhinsk has received recognition at the regional level.
It entered the top ten school museums of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast at the regional stage of the All‑Russian competition "Best Museum (Museum Exhibition) Dedicated to Perpetuating the Memory of the Defenders of the Fatherland."
A total of 708 applications were submitted from 34 municipalities of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast; only 67 of them passed the threshold. The jury paid attention to the design of the museum exhibitions and to the events held for children and young people. As a result, the Dzerzhinsk Museum of the History of the Children's Movement at the Palace of Children's Creativity took fifth place in the ranking of the region's best school museums.
"In the materials we sent to the competition, we told about our museum, about how we work with children, adolescents and young people in the area of 'Patriotic Education', and about the projects we implement," explained the head of the Palace of Children's Creativity museum, Evgenia Makarova. "By the way, one of the criteria for evaluating the work of museums is media coverage, and as confirmation of the events held here we included articles published in Dzerzhinskie Vedomosti. So your newspaper also contributed to our high ranking in this competition."
At first there were doubts about whether it was worth participating at all, since the competition would feature museums of general education institutions or vocational education organizations oriented toward military themes—be it the Great Patriotic War, the participation of a limited contingent of Soviet troops in the conflict in Afghanistan, military actions in the North Caucasus, or the events of the special military operation (SVO) (these were the ones that ultimately made up the prize top three and will represent Nizhny Novgorod Oblast at the all‑Russian stage of the competition). As is known, the main theme of the Dzerzhinsk museum is devoted to the history of the children's movement in the city.
However, due to the large number and high quality of the events held, which impressed the competition jury, the Palace of Children's Creativity museum received high scores that allowed it to be among the best.
"The plus of our museum is that it is also a methodological center where young and adult residents of Dzerzhinsk learn, and where citywide events are organized and held," explains Evgenia Makarova. "For example, we cooperate with the city veterans' council, at whose initiative the school museum competition on patriotic education has been held for the second year in a row. Together with the veterans we hold various meetings involving schoolchildren. We became friends with a Great Patriotic War veteran, Alexander Fyodorovich Vagin, and invite him to visit us. The kids ask him many questions, understanding that he is a part of history..."
The baton is taken up by the heroes of our days. Thus, veterans of the special military operation are invited to meetings with schoolchildren. In addition, the museum organizes various research competitions, such as the "Local History Readings." The museum's director will talk about this and other work in October in Nizhny Novgorod, where the prize‑winners and finalists of the regional stage of the All‑Russian competition will be honored. It should be added that among them is also the museum of Dzerzhinsk School No. 2, which also made the top ten.
