The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, has demanded a report on repeated flooding of the basements of one of the buildings in Dzerzhinsk by sewage, the agency’s information center reported.
The move was prompted by appeals from citizens and information on social networks about the inaction of utility services.
The case concerns a multi-apartment building located on Vatutina Street. According to residents, the basement premises are regularly flooded with sewage. It is believed that the cause is the severe wear of the engineering systems — the building was constructed in 1961.
Local residents claim that the unsanitary conditions in the basements are adversely affecting their health. Despite numerous appeals to the relevant agencies, the problem remains unresolved.
At Alexander Bastrykin’s instruction, the regional office of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region has initiated a procedural investigation. The head of the office, Ayrat Akhmetshin, is to report on the preliminary and final results.
The progress of the investigation and the execution of the chairman’s order are under the supervision of the agency’s central office.
Earlier it was reported that Bastrykin had taken an interest in the dilapidated condition of the Bogoyavlenskaya estate. In September the building was officially declared unsafe.
