On September 18, at a meeting of the Committee on Transport and Road Management of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, deputies discussed a federal bill providing the right to free travel on toll roads for participants in the special military operation and combat veterans who have three or more minor children.
During the discussion, parliamentarians reviewed the text of the initiative submitted to the State Duma. It was noted that existing regulations already establish a number of benefits for various categories of citizens; however, large families of participants and combat veterans are not yet exempted from paying tolls. The new bill is intended to fill this gap and strengthen the system of social guarantees for the defenders of the Fatherland and their families.
It was emphasized that implementing the initiative will not require additional expenditures from the federal budget: the issue of compensation is expected to be resolved at the level of the owners of the roads. The deputies agreed that the document has significant social importance, as it will reduce the financial burden on the families of the heroes of the special military operation and expand their opportunities for travel around the country.
The Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Evgeny Lyulin, noted that support for participants in the special military operation and their families remains one of the priorities: in his words, the initiative under consideration provides an additional tool for caring for those who have defended and continue to defend Russia’s national interests. He stressed the importance of ensuring that such large families can afford long-distance trips without significant expenses.
Following the meeting, the relevant committee decided to prepare and submit a positive review of the bill to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, thereby supporting the socially significant initiative.
The Chairman of the Committee on Transport and Road Management, Vladimir Soldatenkov, added that the bill is of a distinctly social nature and directly concerns the welfare of defenders’ families. He emphasized that the committee intends to thoroughly work through the proposed changes and to assist in their prompt adoption, as this is a concrete and effective support measure capable of genuinely improving people’s lives.
