The festival "Autumn in Switzerland. Jazz of Victory" (6+) will once again gather fans of live music on the central square of the "Switzerland" Park in Nizhny Novgorod. The event will take place from September 19 to 21 and will become the centerpiece of the autumn music season.
Organizers have dedicated the festival to wartime jazz — compositions that accompanied the country during the Great Patriotic War and became part of the cultural heritage. The project is being carried out with the support of the city head, Yuri Shalabayev, and since 2023 it has also been implemented with the assistance of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
Each of the three concert days will have its own thematic focus. On the first day audiences will hear songs that became symbols of national unity. The second day will be devoted to solo performances by musicians who preserve the spirit of 1940s jazz. The festival will conclude with an orchestral program uniting jazz ensembles from across the country and abroad.
Leading Russian performers will take the stage, as well as jazz bands from the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics. A special highlight will be the participation of the Nemiga orchestra from the Republic of Belarus, giving the festival an international status. Many ensembles will present original arrangements of wartime and post-war works.
For the fifth consecutive year, People's Artist of Russia Igor Butman serves as the festival's inspirer and headliner. His participation has become a cherished tradition and a hallmark of this cultural event.
One of the festival's unique elements will be a musical-historical journey to the era of gramophone records. Original wartime recordings will be played from retro gramophones on the park stage. The history of these compositions will be recounted by collector and director of the Nizhny Novgorod State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, Yuri Filippov.
According to the organizers, the jazz festival annually attracts large numbers of spectators, including guests from other cities. It has become an integral part of Nizhny Novgorod's cultural life.
The current program of events is published on the "Switzerland" Park's social media.
It was previously reported that the concerts of the "Music of Balconies" festival (6+) were attended by about 10,000 people.
