      Criminal proceedings against Nizhny Novgorod resident Andrei Molodchenkov, accused of murdering his wife — a police officer — have been suspended. The information was confirmed to NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" by the regional court press service.

      According to the information provided, on July 9, 2025 the Avtozavodsky District Court issued a ruling to suspend the case in connection with the defendant's signing of a contract to perform military service in the zone of the special military operation (SMO). The basis was the provision of part 4 of Article 238 of the Russian Code of Criminal Procedure.

      Molodchenkov is charged under several articles of the Russian Criminal Code: Part 1 of Article 116.1 — battery by a person previously subjected to administrative punishment for a similar act; Part 1 of Article 119 — threat of murder; Part 1 of Article 105 — murder.

      The investigation established that on October 13, 2024 the defendant, while in his wife's car, tried to strangle her and threatened to kill her. Twelve days later he ambushed the woman at her home and inflicted multiple stab wounds to the chest. The victim died at the scene. The Nizhny Novgorod resident buried the body on the bank of the Oka River in the area of the Striginsky Bridge.

      It should be added that in court Molodchenkov pleaded guilty only partially.

      It was reported that the former head of Nizhny Novgorod's Rosprirodnadzor, Oleg Kruchinin, convicted of multimillion-ruble bribes, is trying to join the SMO. However, he is not being allowed to go there.
