According to FSBI “Upper Volga UGMS,” in the period from September 18 to 22, 2025, parts of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast are expected to experience a high, fourth-class, fire danger for forests and peatlands. Rescuers remind that when the fourth class of fire danger is reached, a ban on public access to forests is imposed.
The Main Directorate of the Russian EMERCOM for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast strongly asks everyone to be extremely careful during the fire‑hazard period and to observe all necessary fire‑safety rules.
Upon receiving information about a high or extreme fire danger for forests and peatlands, observe the ban on visiting forests.
Do not burn garbage on your garden or dacha plots.
Do not burn garbage near forests and wooded areas.
Do not light fires in forests.
Do not smoke, do not throw away burning matches or cigarette butts, do not shake hot ash out of smoking pipes.
Do not leave oil‑soaked or petrol‑, kerosene‑ or otherwise flammable‑liquid‑soaked wiping rags in the forest.
Do not leave bottles, glass shards or other litter on sunlit forest clearings.
If you discover a wildfire, be attentive and cautious and immediately call the fire brigade.
Rescuers also recommend using the “EMERCOM of Russia” mobile app to receive timely emergency information about forecast hazardous and adverse meteorological phenomena and emergencies via the Internet.
Earlier it was reported that since the start of the fire‑hazard period no ignitions have been recorded in the city forests. This was reported by the MKU “Civil Defense and Emergency Situations Administration of the City of Nizhny Novgorod.”
Recall that the head of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabayev, during an inspection trip to the Avtozavodsky district forestry ordered the foresters, as in the successful experience in 2024, to prevent fires in the city forests during this year’s fire season. “We must monitor the situation. The necessary equipment has been checked. We bought new machinery, including equipment for working with hazardous trees, deadwood and low‑quality timber, which also cause fires,” Mayor Yuri Shalabayev said.
