      The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, again instructed that a report be submitted on the progress of the criminal investigation into the brutal beating of an elderly woman in Gorodets, Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      According to the agency's information center, the reason for the renewed request were arguments voiced in a legal program segment on a federal TV channel. The broadcast reported that an adult woman may have been involved in the attack, allegedly inciting the teenagers to commit the crime. The victim also stated that she fears for her life and health.

      According to the investigation, several teenagers tormented the pensioner over several days — they shaved her head, broke her ribs and legs. They filmed everything and uploaded it to the internet. The woman is currently in hospital.

      The Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Nizhny Novgorod Region is investigating a criminal case under Articles 112 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (infliction of moderate harm to health) and 150 of the Criminal Code (involving minors in committing a crime). The parents of two of the teenagers involved in the attack are on a preventive register.

      The head of the Nizhny Novgorod investigative directorate, Ayrat Akhmetshin, has been instructed to personally report to Bastrykin on the current status of the investigation, and to assess the information that was broadcast in the TV segment.

      Earlier it was reported that a group of teenagers, including an 8‑year‑old girl, for several days tormented an elderly woman: they shaved her head and then broke her ribs and legs. The schoolchildren filmed everything and later published it online. The police opened a criminal case under the article on intentional infliction of harm to health (part 2 of Article 112 of the Criminal Code). It is also specified that the parents of two of the teenagers are on the preventive register.

      Later, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed that a criminal case be opened for hooliganism, which was done.

      Earlier, the head of the Gorodets district, Alexander Mudrov, commented on the incident. According to him, the family of one of the teenagers has long been under the scrutiny of child protective services.
