Only five cemeteries in Nizhny Novgorod are open for new burials.

      There are 22 municipal cemeteries operating in Nizhny Novgorod, but only five of them are currently open for new burials. This was reported to NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" by the Municipal Cemetery Management of Nizhny Novgorod.

      At the moment, burials are freely available only at Novo-Sormovskoye, Berezovaya Roscha, the first phase of Nizhegorodskoye, the second phase of Sortirovochnoye, and Novopokrovskoye. However, as indicated on the latter's website, only additional interments in already existing family graves of relatives are possible there.

      At the other cemeteries in the city, new burials can only be carried out within family or kinship plots if relatives are already buried there. At the Kuznechikhinskoye and Relsovaya, Lyakhova, Novopolevaya cemeteries, only interment of urns with ashes is permitted.

      Authorities do not plan to expand the boundaries of the existing cemeteries in the city for now. Instead, a new phase of the Novoe Striginskoye cemetery is being built. The area of the future site will be 19.2 hectares.

      Earlier it was reported that a section dedicated to the Defenders of the Fatherland will be arranged on the territory of the municipal Novo-Sormovskoye cemetery.
