After a series of setbacks at the start of the new Junior Hockey League season, Nizhny Novgorod's Chaika finally managed to secure a long-awaited victory. In an away game in Ufa the team beat the local Tolpar 3-2. In their previous match the Nizhny Novgorod side had lost.

The first period finished scoreless, but with plenty of battling and tension on the ice. In the second period Yaroslav Popov opened the scoring, finishing off a quick Chaika attack in which Vladislav Mishin and Alexey Anisimov also contributed with passes. However, the hosts quickly equalized by converting a power play.

Soon Yan Melnikov put the Nizhny Novgorod side back in front. The teams went into the second intermission with the score 2-1.

In the third period Tolpar scored against Chaika again. But with five minutes left before the final buzzer, Makar Golzunov sealed the game by scoring the decisive goal.

The match ended 3-2 in favor of the Avtozavod side. It was Chaika's first win of the 2025/2026 season.

Earlier reports said that last season Chaika were the bronze medalists in the youth championship.
