Culture and leisure. In Nizhny Novgorod’s 1 May Park the first autumn meeting of the Nizhny Novgorod Pensioners’ Union project “Dance Floors in the Parks of Nizhny Novgorod” took place. More than 100 people gathered at the event.
“‘Dance Floors in the Parks of Nizhny Novgorod’ is a project that proves that retirement is not the end of life but, on the contrary, the beginning of an exciting new stage. 60+ is a wonderful age: the children are independent, some even have grandchildren growing up. Finally there is time for yourself. And, of course, it is very important to create conditions so that older residents of Nizhny Novgorod can socialize with each other and relax actively and interestingly. That means preserving youthfulness of spirit! And what could be more important for a healthy and long life?” — noted regional coordinator of the party project “Older Generation,” Vladimir Tarasov.
The “Dance Floors” program began with a joint fitness warm-up. Gymnastic exercises invigorated the participants and set the mood for a real dance marathon.
“The physical-exercise break is simply wonderful. First, the fact that others do the exercises with you doesn’t allow slacking. Look how actively the neighbor is waving his arms. Am I any worse? Second, the warm-up consists of movements that are good for the joints. This is very relevant for my health. And, of course, after such a warm-up your feet just start dancing,” shared “Dance Floors” guest Evgenia Tuleeva.
For the musical accompaniment of the evening the organizers invited a legend of Soviet dance floors — the band “Second Wind.” The group was formed in 1969 and still performs in its full lineup. Their repertoire includes hits from the 1970s.
“Our project runs all summer and has now smoothly moved into autumn. Three more meetings are planned before the end of the season: September 20 — a dance floor in Avtozavodsky Park, September 25 — in Stankozavod Park, and October 1 — in Dubki Park. The project has proven to be in high demand among Nizhny Novgorod’s older generation. The largest event was the meeting at the end of June in Avtozavodsky Park, which drew more than 600 people,” noted deputy chair of the Nizhny Novgorod Pensioners’ Union, Tatyana Bogdanova.
The highlight of the meeting was an “open mic.” Anyone wishing could perform their creative number in front of the audience.
