Scammers swindled an associate professor at a Nizhny Novgorod university out of 1 million rubles.

      An associate professor at a Nizhny Novgorod university fell victim to telephone scammers. Trying to safeguard her funds, the 73-year-old woman enriched the criminals by 1 million rubles. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.

      At first the woman from Nizhny Novgorod received calls and messages allegedly from a colleague in the accounting department. After that, pseudo-representatives of law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies contacted her. During the conversations they convinced their victim that her funds were in danger and needed to be transferred to a “safe” account.

      Believing the fraudsters, the associate professor installed a mobile application and transferred one million rubles in two payments to the specified details. A criminal case has been opened. The identities of those involved in the crime are being established.
