Residents of Nizhny Novgorod express dissatisfaction with the operation of trams. On social media, citizens complain about long waits for transport and overcrowded cars, especially during peak hours.
According to passengers, in the evening only one tram remains on routes No. 18 and 19 each, which makes travel practically impossible.
A similar problem is observed on route No. 2. Although service on the semicircular section was recently restored, passengers say the interval between trams is too long.
"On Monday after 6:00 p.m. only two No. 2 trams were showing on the map, although they promised to run four. Moreover, those two cars were going in the same direction. I saw the same picture on Tuesday. It's faster to walk!" a resident complained.
The situation on routes No. 6 and 7 also causes discontent. According to Nizhny Novgorod residents, trams are overcrowded during peak hours and have long waits at other times. Passengers ask to put larger-capacity sets on the lines, such as the "MiNiN" and 71–409 models, which previously operated on these routes.
The Center for Transport Systems Development (CTSD) explains that trams run at maximum capacity during peak hours. However, due to a shortage of drivers not all sets can be operated in a two-shift mode. As a result, intervals between services increase in the evening.
"The transport company is taking all measures to fully adhere to the timetable," the CTSD said.
Passengers also complain about inconvenient transfers and shortened routes. Some suggest combining routes No. 18 and No. 27 to increase frequency and simplify travel to the Moskovsky railway station. However, the CTSD explained that route No. 18 has one of the lowest passenger volumes. In addition, the center noted, the loop on Maslyakova Street is not yet ready to accommodate a large number of trams, and a full return of route No. 18 to the main loop is possible only after reconstruction on Osharskaya, Kuznechikhinskaya and Lapshikha is completed.
The shortening of route No. 27 was explained by the fact that the main passenger flow on it falls on the section from the Moskovsky railway station to Lyadov Square.
For now, to facilitate transfers between routes No. 18 and No. 27, an additional stop has been introduced on Pushkin Street. Schedule synchronization is also planned.
Recall that some routes in the city remain closed or shortened due to large-scale tram track repairs that are ongoing on 14 streets and will continue into next year.
