Economy. Organizations engaged in debt collection in the Nizhny Novgorod Region were hit with hefty fines for violating citizens' rights. Over the seven months of the current year, 427 complaints about the actions of collectors and creditors were filed with the regional office of the Federal Bailiff Service, the agency’s press service reported.

After inspections, agency officials drew up 132 administrative offense reports and initiated 122 cases with investigations. All of them concerned violations of the law governing rules for communicating with debtors.

For example, one bank broke several rules at once. An employee called people who had nothing to do with the debt, without their consent or the debtor’s consent. Moreover, he presented himself as a court bailiff, which misled the people he spoke to.

It turned out that similar incidents by the bank had occurred before. As a result, the organization was found guilty and fined 300,000 rubles.

The total amount of fines resulting from the inspections exceeded 16.6 million rubles.

Earlier it was reported that a Nizhny Novgorod resident lost his apartment because of debts of 6 million rubles.
