The second tourist-ecological festival "People of the Shore 2.0" took place at Shchelokovsky Khutor in Nizhny Novgorod. The event, aimed at fostering an informed approach to environmental issues, brought together more than 300 active city residents. The project was organized by ANO "Center for Support of Social Projects 'Changing the World'" with the support of the Volunteer Center of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
Key events of the festival were environmental initiatives. During the plogging run "Run with Meaning," participants collected and sorted 25 bags of trash, cleaning the shoreline of the first lake at Shchelokovsky Khutor. At a special plastic recycling workshop, guests learned from the winners of the international #WEARETOGETHER award, the Lemanov brothers, about the importance of separate waste collection and turned in more than 10 kg of plastic caps for recycling.
The festival's tourist component allowed Nizhny Novgorod residents to learn useful skills: master classes taught them how to tie camping knots and pitch a tent. Kayak and stand-up paddleboard rides on the lake were popular with guests of all ages.
"The ecological tourist festival became an important event for Nizhny Novgorod and its residents. We are very glad that it brought different people together around the idea of caring for nature and responsible tourism. Thanks to everyone who supported and took part — together we are making our city cleaner and more nature-friendly," commented the project leader, director of ANO "CSPSP 'Changing the World'" Alisa Shinkaruk.
Leading environmental speakers from the region gave lectures on how to incorporate sustainable eco-habits into everyday life. Staff from the Kerzhensky Nature Reserve told participants about the unique flora and fauna of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
"It is important to us that the 'People of the Shore' festival is not a one-off event but a growing ecosystem. Seeing more than 300 people from Nizhny Novgorod collect trash, learn to kayak and pick up new skills is the best motivation for our work. I am confident that participants will bring these habits into their families and workplaces tomorrow. This is precisely how the region's environmental culture is formed — through personal example and positive impressions. The Volunteer Center will continue to support such timely and important initiatives that change people's environment and consciousness," said the general director of ANO "Volunteer Center of the Nizhny Novgorod Region," Maria Samodelkina.
