      A Nizhny Novgorod resident who abducted a 10-year-old girl, assaulted her and hid her in a sofa was found insane. The child's family is asking that he be sent to prison. The parents believe there are inconsistencies in the case materials. Baza reports the details.

      Recall, the tragedy occurred in the fall of 2023. The girl, who has autism, ran out of the apartment on Yubileyny Boulevard when her mother failed to lock the door. Ultimately the child was found at the home of a 44-year-old neighbor, who abused her for several hours. After that the attacker hid the girl in the sofa. He was detained the same day.

      According to the parents, the first three days after the incident their daughter was in a severe state: she screamed, banged against the walls and stopped speaking. Reportedly, the girl's speech has not recovered; she sleeps only with the door open and eats poorly.

      Meanwhile, experts diagnosed the man with a mental disorder and concluded that during the crime he did not understand what he was doing. The court decided not to impose a prison term and sent Maxim for compulsory treatment. It was previously reported that the perpetrator turned out to be unemployed and was known in the neighborhood as a maker and seller of scrubbing sponges.

      The family disagreed with this decision and point to details that, in their view, indicate the defendant's deliberate actions: he delayed opening the door for a long time, hid the child "so that she would not be found naked at his house," and told police that there was "all sorts of junk" in the sofa. After an appeal the verdict was left unchanged.

      A complaint was sent to the attorney general, the case went to Moscow and returned to Nizhny Novgorod without being reconsidered.
