Rospotrebnadzor has urged Nizhny Novgorod medical workers to increase vigilance regarding chikungunya fever. This was reported by the editor-in-chief of "Stacionar-press," Alexey Nikonov.

The reason was the detection of two imported cases of the disease in Moscow from Sri Lanka, as well as a deterioration of the situation in five Chinese provinces — Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan, Yunnan — and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the PRC. The rise in cases is linked to an increase in the population of Aedes mosquitoes due to floods and abnormal heat.

Nizhny Novgorod medical workers were advised to conduct a thorough epidemiological history for patients with fever, always clarifying whether they had stayed in risky regions. Readiness for immediate laboratory testing of suspected cases has also been increased. Most patients fully recover, but in some cases serious complications affecting the eyes, the cardiovascular system and the nervous system are possible.
