      From September 1, 2025, updated rules for providing medical care to children in educational institutions came into effect in Russia.

      Now medical care in schools and kindergartens can be provided not only by pediatricians but also by nurses (or male nurses) who hold higher medical education. All school and preschool medical offices will be renamed "medical units." This is necessary so that the specialists working there can claim preferential medical work experience.

      The new rules also give medical staff the right to participate in adapting the educational process. If a child has health conditions, the program can be adjusted taking into account medical recommendations.

      Each medical unit must now have a clearly defined set of equipment and rooms. Mandatory ones include a procedure room and a patient reception room. Equipment must include dressing kits, an emergency first-aid kit, a portable electrocardiograph, thermometers, a stadiometer, stretchers and a table for medical procedures.

      The responsibilities of medical workers in schools have expanded. Their duties now include conducting medical examinations, vaccination, providing assistance during exacerbations of chronic diseases, referring to specialist doctors, and issuing health certificates.

      In addition, if a child needs to take medication regularly, the medical worker is obliged to monitor adherence to the schedule and keep a special log with entries for each administration of the medication.

      It was previously reported that it has become more difficult for frequently ill residents of Nizhny Novgorod to take sick leave.
