IncidentsInvestigators have completed the criminal investigation into a 32-year-old resident of Vyksa, Nizhny Novgorod Region, accused of embezzling budget funds allocated under a state social support program, the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

According to the police, in August 2022 the man applied to the relevant agency requesting a social contract. In his application he submitted a business plan in which he intended to provide courier services as a self-employed individual. Based on these documents, he was granted 350,000 rubles from the budget to purchase a vehicle for work.

However, it later emerged that the accused did not engage in entrepreneurial activity. Instead, he submitted fictitious income reports and forged documents showing the purchase of the vehicle to the authorized body. In reality the car belonged to his stepfather, and the sales contract was fictitiously drawn up with a close relative, with no transfer of funds.

The money he received was spent on personal needs, including a vacation at a resort. The car later registered in his name was sold, and the proceeds were also received by his stepfather.

The accused admitted his guilt and explained that he never performed courier deliveries and had used the funds at his discretion, violating the terms of the social contract.

Officers from the Department for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption gathered a sufficient body of evidence. The criminal case, initiated under part 3 of Article 159.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud in obtaining payments), has been sent to court with an approved indictment.

The penalties under this article provide for punishment of up to six years' imprisonment.

Earlier it was reported that a manager from Sokolsky would be tried for fraud involving 28 million rubles.
