SocietySpecialists from the interregional office of Rosprirodnadzor for the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Mordovia have completed a comprehensive survey of a large municipal solid waste dump in the Pervomaysky district. The press service of the supervisory authority reported this.

The work was carried out as part of the federal project "General Cleanup," aimed at eliminating sites of accumulated environmental damage.

The area of contaminated land exceeded 19,000 square meters. The dump is located only 1.5 kilometers from residential development and is surrounded by a forest. During the inspection it was found that the site is not fenced. No signs of economic activity were detected on site; however, isolated instances of recent waste dumping were recorded.

Together with experts from the laboratory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Center for Laboratory Analysis and Technical Measurements for the Volga Federal District," specialists conducted geodetic work and took samples of the waste and environmental components for contamination testing.

All collected data will be transferred to the Federal Center for Analysis and Assessment of Technogenic Impact. Based on them, a further decision on the fate of the site will be made.

Earlier it was reported that the spontaneous dump that reappeared in Bor is planned to be completely eliminated by the end of the current year.
