Starting September 3, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast will begin issuing permits for hunting fur-bearing animals. A permit can be obtained for the taking of hare — both the white (mountain) hare and the brown hare — as well as fox and raccoon dog.
The regional Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection clarified that the autumn hunting campaign is already in full swing. This season, recreational and sport hunting for fur-bearing animals is permitted from September 15, 2025, and will continue until February 28, 2026.
The ministry emphasized that the issuance of permits for hare hunting will be regulated taking into account the carrying capacity of the hunting grounds. This approach is necessary to preserve population numbers.
Applications for permits to hunt in public hunting grounds can be submitted in Nizhny Novgorod at 2 Kostina Street, office 67, or by phone at 8 (831-43) 4-32-88. Permits can also be issued at the territorial subdivisions of the regional forestry ministry.
A state fee of 650 rubles must be paid to obtain a permit. Sample application forms and a payment receipt are posted on the ministry’s website in the "Issuance of Permits for Harvesting Hunting Resources" section.
In addition, permits for the shooting of wolves continue to be issued.
The forestry ministry reminded that when fire-danger classes IV–V are declared in the region, access to forests is banned. For the convenience of hunters and residents of the oblast, the ministry’s website updates a fire situation map daily, indicating areas with active restrictions.
Earlier it was revealed where the most bears and wolves are in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast.
