Hockey club Torpedo from Nizhny Novgorod failed to win a single game at the preseason tournament in Moscow and finished last in the final standings of the Mayor's Cup.
In the final match of the tournament the Nizhny Novgorod side met Moscow's Spartak in the game for fifth place. The match ended in a confident 4:0 victory for the red‑whites. One goal in each of the first two periods and two in the third secured Spartak's final success.
The goals were scored by defensemen Daniil Orlov and Veniamin Korolyov, and forwards Yegor Filin and Ivan Morozov.
Torpedo lined up as follows: goaltender Kulbakov (backup — Kostin); defensive pairs — Naumenkov – Konyushkov (A), Nardella – Silaev, Boikov – Sizov (A), Nikitin – Shchemerov; forward lines — Sokolov – Letunov – Artamonov, Goncharuk – Kruchinin (C) – Atanasov, Vinogradov – Belevich – Voronin, Rozhkov – Abramov – Chefanov. In the third period Opalev and Shavin also took to the ice, replacing Belevich and Rozhkov.
Earlier Torpedo lost to both Dynamo teams — Moscow (0:1) and Minsk (3:7). Thus, the team lost all three matches in the tournament.
In addition, as part of their season preparation the Nizhny Novgorod side previously played two away friendly matches and also failed to find success. The game against Yaroslavl's Lokomotiv ended in a 1:2 defeat, and the first sparring match with Spartak was 3:6.
