A rare pigmented nevus was found on a woman from Nizhny Novgorod at a dermatology center.

      A resident of Nizhny Novgorod was diagnosed by specialists with an extremely rare skin disease — the nevus of Ito. This was reported by the Telegram channel "Bokal Presseka".

      The pathology was identified at the State Scientific Center for Dermatovenereology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

      According to doctors, this ailment occurs very rarely — from one to nine cases per 100,000 people. Most often the nevus of Ito appears at birth or during adolescence, especially in girls.

      A characteristic sign of the disease is a large dark-blue pigmented spot, which is usually located on the back. Despite its impressive appearance, the lesion does not disappear on its own and requires monitoring.

      Doctors note that the nevus is practically untreatable. In exceptional cases it may be accompanied by sensorineural hearing loss or malignant transformation into melanoma.

      Nevertheless, modern methods allow partially concealing the manifestations of the disease — laser skin lightening is used for this purpose.

      Earlier, parents of Nizhny Novgorod first-graders were informed about possible health risks for children.
