Already on Monday thousands of schoolchildren in Nizhny Novgorod will go to ceremonial assemblies with bouquets, and parents are busy buying flowers for teachers. Rospotrebnadzor gives recommendations on choosing and storing fresh flowers so that the bouquet retains its freshness for as long as possible.
To keep a bouquet looking its best for as long as possible, choose seasonal and resilient varieties such as chrysanthemums, gerberas, asters, dahlias, eustomas (lisianthus) and gypsophila. These flowers better withstand temperature fluctuations and keep their appearance longer while the child stands with them during the assembly. Roses are best purchased at the semi-open bud stage, as they retain their shape longer.
Before buying, pay attention to the petals. They should be firm, without signs of darkening, spots or dryness. Stems of fresh flowers should be firm and moist, without soft or dark areas and without an unpleasant odor. Packaging and backing should be dry and free of mold.
After purchase, the bouquet should be placed immediately into a container with water, having previously trimmed the stems. For thick stems a diagonal cut is recommended, while rigid stems can be split or slightly notched. You should also remove lower leaves to prevent rotting.
The agency reminded that when selling flowers the seller is obliged to provide the buyer with full and accurate information about the product and its manufacturers in Russian, and must issue the buyer a cash receipt and a sales receipt.
Rospotrebnadzor stresses that houseplants and fresh flowers are not subject to return or exchange, except in cases when they have defects or the seller did not provide complete information about the product.
