Khimik won thanks to the second half.
Dzerzhinsk’s Khimik extended its unbeaten run. In the away match of the 18th round of the LEON Russian Championship among Second League teams (Division B, Group 4), Sergey Perednya’s side notched another victory, convincingly beating local Uralets-TS in Nizhny Tagil (3–1). Division B’s top scorer Ilya Yurchenko increased his tally to 17 goals.
With the match in Nizhny Tagil, Khimik capped a hectic week of fixtures. For the Dzerzhinsk side it was their third match (including a cup tie) in the last eight days.
All the key events between the two teams, both of which were among the top three (after 17 rounds Uralets-TS sat third with 28 points, while Khimik were first with 42), unfolded in the second half. Shortly after the interval the visitors opened the scoring: defender Daniil Plotnikov headed home after finding himself in the opponent’s penalty area. Eighteen minutes later Uralets-TS goalkeeper Maksim Moskovets had to fetch the ball out of the net again – this time forward Ilya Yurchenko scored, with the assist from Khimik’s newcomer Andrey Savinov, who had only just come on as a substitute. Khimik extended their lead (2–0).
Not content with two goals on the road, the group’s most prolific team added a third when midfielder Dmitry Weber’s precise strike made it 3–0 in the 80th minute. However, the hosts managed to avoid a complete rout thanks to Alexander Podbel’tsev’s penalty, awarded against Khimik in stoppage time and converted by Podbel’tsev himself, denying young Khimik goalkeeper Vladislav Dolzhenko a likely clean sheet. Dolzhenko had been the main cause of the penalty, having fouled a Uralets-TS forward in his own box.
The away win ensured Khimik retained top spot in the table (Dzerzhinsk now have 45 points). Second-placed Amkar-Perm have 42 points after 18 matches. Kazan’s Rubin-2, Dynamo-Barnaul and FC Orenburg-2 follow with 29 points each.
Khimik will play their next fixture at home: on Sunday, August 31, the Dzerzhinsk side will host Ural-2 from Yekaterinburg.
