      New art objects have appeared in Balakhna and Gorodets, continuing the cultural project "City Alphabet," dedicated to the history of Russian writing and a contemporary view of the Old Church Slavonic alphabet. This was reported by the Institute for the Development of the Urban Environment of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      In Balakhna an art object in the form of the letter "B" has been installed, which in the Old Church Slavonic alphabet was called "buki" and meant "letter." The sculpture alludes to the city's name and is decorated with an image of a griffin, which is often found in the ornamentation of traditional Balakhna glazed tiles. These ceramic elements still adorn the walls of the city's churches.

      In Gorodets the letter "G" has appeared, known in ancient writing as "glagoli" ("speak"). The art object not only symbolizes the first letter in the city's name, but also contains elements of faraonki carving — one of the characteristic motifs of Gorodets decorative carving, deeply rooted in local culture and folklore.

      Earlier, similar letters appeared in Vyksa, Boldino and on the Strelka in Nizhny Novgorod.

      A total of nine letters of the Old Church Slavonic alphabet are planned to be installed as part of the project.
