Cardiologists are among the most in-demand specialists among Nizhny Novgorod residents using the "Health Trains." According to the regional Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the year patients of the mobile diagnostic units have turned to doctors in this specialty almost 9,200 times. In total, doctors on the "Health Trains" saw about 27,500 people.

Since the beginning of the year, specialists have newly identified more than 300 cases of circulatory system diseases among Nizhny Novgorod residents. Many patients consulted doctors about previously diagnosed cardiovascular conditions.

According to Olga Kolchik, head of the department for organizing the work of mobile medical teams at the N.A. Semashko Nizhny Novgorod Regional Clinical Hospital, cardiologists consult residents of the region daily and provide recommendations on how to reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

"You should be alert and schedule a visit to a cardiologist if you experience shortness of breath, pain in the chest area, shoulder or neck region, or swelling of the lower limbs. If there are episodes of sudden palpitations or heart rhythm disturbances, regular increases in blood pressure, episodes of loss of consciousness or pre-fainting conditions — that is already a reason for an urgent visit to a specialist," the physician explained.

She added that among the essential rules for maintaining a healthy heart are proper nutrition, giving up harmful habits, and moderate physical activity. Patients are also advised to get enough sleep and monitor their salt intake.

According to the regional Ministry of Health, since the beginning of 2025 five "Health Trains" have already made 160 trips to the region's municipalities. Over the past months, a total of 47,300 medical consultations and more than 96,800 diagnostic examinations were performed for patients.

Recall that the "Health Trains" project has been implemented at the initiative of the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Gleb Nikitin, since 2018. The operation of the mobile diagnostic complexes makes it possible to achieve the goals and objectives set out by the new national project "Longer and Active Life."

The schedule of the "Health Trains" is updated monthly. Up-to-date information can be found on the regional Ministry of Health's website at: https://zdrav-nnov.ru/informatsiya/poezda-zdorovya/.

The national project "Longer and Active Life" was launched in the country in 2025 at the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is aimed at the expected increase in life expectancy by 2030 and envisages further modernization of polyclinics, outpatient clinics and feldsher-midwife stations, the attraction of an increasing number of qualified medical personnel to healthcare facilities, the application of new approaches in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases, the improvement of emergency medical care and rehabilitation systems, the development of a network of national research centers, and the digitalization of the sector. The national project includes 11 federal projects: "Health for Everyone," "Modernization of Primary Healthcare," "Medical Personnel," "Combating Cardiovascular Diseases," "Combating Oncological Diseases," "Combating Diabetes," "Combating Hepatitis and Minimizing the Risk of Its Spread," "Improvement of Emergency Medical Care," "Development of Federal Medical Organizations, including the Expansion of the Network of National Research Centers," the national platform "Health," and "Optimal Medical Rehabilitation for Health Recovery."
