An instance of illegal moose hunting was discovered in Tonshaevsky District.

      On the territory of the Tonshaevsky municipal district of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, the device "Vystrel" detected an incident of illegal shooting of two moose. This was reported by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      On August 17, on the territory of public hunting grounds in the area of the Vinogradovo tract, the "Vystrel" system was triggered, notifying a state hunting supervision officer of the regional Ministry of Forestry about similar sounds. During an on-site rapid response inspection, a citizen was found who had illegally taken two moose (a female and a male) outside the legal hunting season.

      "Moose is a valuable species of game resources, and hunting seasons, as well as the number of animals permitted to be taken, are strictly limited. In this case, the person did not have a permit to take the animals, which qualifies his action as illegal. The offender faces criminal prosecution and payment of damages caused to wildlife in the amount of more than 600,000 rubles," the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod Region said.

      An investigative-operational team from the Tonshaevsky inter-municipal division of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs was called to the scene. During investigative-search activities, one firearm and moose meat were seized. The inquiry department of the Tonshaevsky inter-municipal division of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal case under the elements of the offense provided for in Part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal hunting).

      The agency added that the "Vystrel" device is capable of distinguishing shots from hunting weapons within a radius of 500 meters. Its primary task is to provide continuous objective monitoring in those forest areas where illegal hunting may occur, enabling the prompt apprehension of offenders.

      In addition, the region employs the working principle of anti-poaching groups to combat illegal taking of wildlife. A state hunting inspector’s dispatch is carried out jointly with a police officer, National Guard (Rosgvardiya) personnel and a production hunting inspector.

      So far this year, state hunting inspectors have identified 719 violations of legislative requirements, including 19 instances of illegal hunting that contain signs of criminally punishable acts; 19 firearms have been seized.

      The amount of damage caused to hunting resources per individual is: moose — up to 400,000 rubles; wild boar — up to 150,000 rubles; bear — up to 300,000 rubles; lynx — up to 200,000 rubles; etc. (except for illegal hunting in specially protected natural areas).
