MTS, the digital ecosystem, registered increased user interest in its trade-in program in its own retail network in the Nizhny Novgorod region. In the first seven months of 2025, there was an impressive 31% increase in the number of smartphones purchased under the program.

Residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region most often exchange old devices for new Samsung smartphone models. Thus, in the past quarter the share of newly purchased Samsung devices amounted to an impressive 88% of all transactions. The premium Galaxy S25 Ultra model is the most in demand. Following are Apple devices at 3% and Huawei at 2%.

As for the devices being handed in, Samsung also leads — in 46% of cases users part with Samsung devices. Xiaomi phones occupy the second position (21%), and Apple products close the top three with 7%.

Experts attribute the increased interest in MTS’s trade-in service to a significant rise in discount amounts when purchasing new smartphones. The maximum discount in 2025 reached 20,000 rubles, which is 26% higher than in previous periods. The discount amount varies depending on the manufacturer and model of the device being traded in.

“Trade-in is becoming increasingly popular among Nizhny Novgorod residents when buying flagship smartphones. This service makes it possible to save on upgrading a gadget and makes the device replacement process more convenient. Customers can avoid the hassle of selling the old phone — they simply hand it in and receive compensation that can be used to purchase a new model. The assessment system is transparent, and the paperwork is straightforward. For those who want to upgrade their smartphone, this option often proves to be the optimal solution,” said MTS director in the Nizhny Novgorod region Andrey Belov.
