A bill has been drafted in the State Duma to toughen penalties for the illegal use of the special "Disabled" sign when parking. This was reported by Yaroslav Nilov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans’ Affairs, the 360 TV channel says.

Nilov noted that the existing fine of 5,000 rubles is not sufficient to prevent violations. Because of unscrupulous drivers who illegally use the sign, people with disabilities face difficulties finding an available parking space.

Together with his committee colleague Mikhail Terentyev, Nilov proposed increasing the fine to 7,500 rubles for individuals and to 20,000 rubles for officials. For legal entities the fine could be up to 500,000 rubles. In addition, it is proposed to revoke driving licenses for repeat offenses.

The bill has already been prepared and sent to the government for consideration.
