Incidents
A clandestine drug laboratory located in a garage unit in Kanavinsky District, Nizhny Novgorod, has been shut down. The operation was carried out jointly by officers of the regional FSB directorate and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
According to the investigation, two local residents organized a criminal group engaged in the manufacture and distribution of synthetic drugs. One of them oversaw the entire process; the other provided the premises and took part in producing the prohibited substances, receiving between 25,000 and 50,000 rubles for this.
During a search, law enforcement seized 16.5 kilograms of synthetic drugs, 45 canisters of chemical reagents, and equipment used for production and packaging: distillation tanks, electronic scales, refrigerators, fume hoods, an air conditioner and other devices.
A criminal case has been opened under part 3 of Article 30 and part 5 of Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — attempted sale of narcotic drugs on a particularly large scale. The article's penalty provides for punishment of up to 18 years' imprisonment.
Both suspects have been remanded in custody. All seized substances and equipment have been sent for examination to the forensic and criminalistics centre. Operational measures are continuing — investigators are establishing all circumstances of the illegal activity and possible accomplices.
Earlier it was reported that officers of the Lyskovsky District police detained a man suspected of attempting to distribute a large consignment of narcotics.
