The operation of the new water main in Zelyony Gorod was inspected on August 21 by the head of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuriy Shalabaev; Dmitriy Sivokhin, CEO of JSC Teploenergo — the managing organization of JSC Nizhegorodsky Vodokanal; and Valeriy Sinkov, head of the Main Directorate of the Russian EMERCOM for the Nizhny Novgorod Region. According to Yuriy Shalabaev, the issue of building a new water main had been discussed for a long time. Zelyony Gorod is now home to 2,000 residents and contains more than 15 social facilities: sanatoriums, holiday homes, schools, boarding schools, care homes, and 300 residential houses.
“The old pipeline, built in the late 1980s, was a dead end, so the majority of the population was left without water,” the city head explained. “A decision was made to build an additional branch, and now the problem is solved.”
“In the summer the water was cut off quite often,” local resident Olga Sokolova said. “Everyone understood that it was happening because the pipes are old.”
The new 8-km water main runs from the village of Fedyakovo — thereby allowing the previously dead-end section to be looped into the main networks. Now water supply will be stable even in the event of an accident, and new buildings can be connected to the system.
“There is no need to worry about providing water to the residents of Zelyony Gorod,” added Dmitriy Sivokhin.
Importantly, the firefighters now have a reliable source of water supply. Vodokanal has another important project planned: the construction of trunk networks in Olgino and Novinki is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
