A former traffic police inspector was given a suspended sentence for a crash in Dzerzhinsk.

      A court in Dzerzhinsk found a former traffic police officer guilty of exceeding his official powers after an incident in which a motorcyclist suffered serious bodily harm. This was reported by the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      As established by the investigation and the court, in April 2024 the inspector, while driving an official vehicle, was traveling through the Pyra settlement of the Dzerzhinsk urban district. Without signaling a stop to the oncoming motorcyclist, he moved into the oncoming lane. The motorcyclist, unable to avoid the collision, crashed into a car that was in his lane. As a result of the accident he sustained serious injuries.

      The court found the evidence collected by the Dzerzhinsk investigative department sufficient to deliver a verdict. The former inspector was charged under paragraph "v" of part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — exceeding official powers.

      The court sentenced the man to 3 years' imprisonment, suspended. In addition, he was deprived of the right to hold positions in law enforcement agencies associated with the exercise of governmental authority for 2 years and was stripped of his special rank.
