In 2024–2025 more than 50 million rubles were invested in the renovation of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Hospital for War Veterans. As part of the upgrade of the institution’s material and technical base, new equipment and furniture are also being purchased. Over the past two years, around another 20 million rubles have been allocated for these purposes.

On August 18 the medical organization was visited by the Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Checherin, the Minister of Health of Nizhny Novgorod Region Galina Mikhailova, and the Chair of the City Duma of Nizhny Novgorod Evgeny Chintsov. The officials checked how the instructions on modernizing the hospital are being implemented and under what conditions patients receive treatment.

“We and my colleagues came here in January this year: at that time specific plans were outlined for updating the hospital’s material and technical base. Today we are evaluating the first results. We inspected the new spaces of the physiotherapy and hydrogen sulfide departments, the massage rooms, and the salt room. The renovation was done to a very high standard, and a number of new premises that were previously used as storage have been put into use for patient treatment. We checked the equipment doctors are working with: modern baths and comfortable electrically adjustable massage tables. We will definitely continue working in the same vein: combat veterans must receive quality medical care in decent conditions,” said Andrey Checherin.

The tour for the guests was led by the hospital’s chief physician, Oleg Evstafyev. He reported that work is currently actively underway on renovating the second floor — the neurological department is being transformed. Builders are taking veterans’ wishes into account: individual lighting will be installed in the wards, and there will be more power outlets.

“I instructed the chief physician to launch the department’s work on October 1. We will hold a ceremonial opening with the participation of doctors and patients. We will certainly talk with our fighters from the Special Military Operation and find out their impressions,” said Andrey Checherin.

Galina Mikhailova emphasized that the hospital cares about the comfort of not only patients but also medical staff. For example, after the renovation a separate cozy staff rest room appeared on the basement floor.

“We are also analyzing and readjusting internal processes. One of the most important elements is unified workwear. Today all specialists at the medical facility wear the new uniform of our brand ‘Health Service.’ The clothing for doctors, mid-level, and junior medical staff differs in color so that a patient immediately understands whom they are speaking with. These and other positive innovations make it possible to improve the quality of medical care and to boost the morale of medical workers and patients,” the minister explained.

Evgeny Chintsov shared his impressions of the visit to the hospital.

“I am amazed at how the spaces we inspected in January have been transformed. The changes make patients happy — we heard only positive feedback from them! We went to visit 102-year-old Great Patriotic War veteran Georgy Leontyevich Popov, who is currently in the hospital for scheduled treatment. Our hero is also satisfied with everything, surrounded by the attention of doctors and receiving the necessary assistance. We also strolled along the fir alley — we planted it together with hospital staff this spring. In a few years the trees will grow and delight patients and medical staff with their beauty,” the chair of the City Duma of Nizhny Novgorod shared.

Recall that the modernization of medical institutions in Nizhny Novgorod Region is aimed at the continuous improvement of the quality of medical care in the region. This is one of the tasks set within the framework of the new national project “Longer and Active Life.”

The national project was launched in the country in 2025 at the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is aimed at the expected increase in life expectancy by 2030 and involves further renewal of polyclinics, outpatient clinics, feldsher-midwife stations, attracting more qualified medical personnel to medical institutions, the application of new approaches to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic diseases, improvement of emergency medical care and the rehabilitation system, development of a network of national research centers, and digitalization of the sector.

The new national project includes 11 federal projects: “Health for Everyone,” “Modernization of Primary Health Care,” “Medical Personnel,” “Combating Cardiovascular Diseases,” “Combating Cancer,” “Combating Diabetes,” “Combating Hepatitis and Minimizing the Risk of Disease Spread,” “Improvement of Emergency Medical Care,” “Development of Federal Medical Organizations, including the expansion of the network of national research centers,” the “National ‘Health’ Platform,” and “Optimal Medical Rehabilitation for Health Recovery.”
