Society. In Nizhny Novgorod, an all-Russian memorial event was held dedicated to the memory of volunteers of the People's Front Youth movement — Nikolai Kovalev and David Sokolov.
According to the regional office of the People's Front, both volunteers were killed on 16 August 2024 as a result of a missile strike by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The tragedy occurred in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region during an evacuation mission on the Seym River.
As part of the event, a photo exhibition was organized featuring images of David Sokolov. These shots convey the day-to-day work of volunteers in the special military operation zone and show realities far removed from peacetime life. Participants were also shown a documentary film dedicated to Nikolai and David.
A symbolic memorial appeared in Pushkin Park, where residents of Nizhny Novgorod and visitors to the city could lay flowers as a sign of respect and remembrance for the fallen volunteers.
As Valeria Pavlova, a representative of the People's Front Youth in the Nizhny Novgorod region, noted, despite different fates, Nikolai and David, both originally from the Donetsk People's Republic, found themselves side by side at the most difficult moment and selflessly carried out dangerous work called for by their hearts.
Today, members of the People's Front Youth continue the work of their comrades. They provide assistance to residents of border areas, deliver humanitarian aid, take part in the elimination of the consequences of shelling, and help evacuate people from dangerous zones.
The event was made possible thanks to the support of the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the House of National Unity and the youth movement "Chkalov."
Earlier it was reported that a requiem service and a memorial rally dedicated to Russian soldiers who died during the First World War took place in Nizhny Novgorod.
