      Ninety-six people, including 18 children, were injured in road accidents in the Nizhny Novgorod region last week, the press service of the regional State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (UGIBDD) reports.

      A total of 83 traffic accidents occurred during the stated period, in which seven people died. According to senior inspector of the Road Patrol Safety Unit (OPBDD) of the UGIBDD Yulia Emurseynova, the main cause of the accidents was speeding. This led to accidents in 20 cases. In another 17 cases, accidents were caused by violations of the rules for positioning a vehicle on the roadway. There were also 10 accidents recorded due to failure to observe right-of-way, and 16 due to driving into the oncoming lane.

      In addition, 202 drunk drivers were detected last week. Twenty of them were caught repeating the same offense.
