      The Avtozavodsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod denied a request to detain an official accused of negligence after the death of a child, the regional court’s press service reported.

      Investigators had sought to place the district administration employee under house arrest. She is accused of negligence resulting in the child’s death. The woman’s actions are alleged to contain elements of crimes under Part 2 of Article 293 and Part 1 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — negligence and causing death by negligence.

      According to the case materials, the official failed to provide proper oversight of unauthorized structures erected in the district. As a result, one of these illegal structures fell into a state of disrepair and collapsed.

      Investigators believe the district administration did not take timely measures to identify and dismantle the dangerous structure, which led to the tragedy.

      Despite the investigators’ arguments, the court refused to grant the petition to place the defendant under house arrest. The ruling has not yet entered into legal force.

      Recall, the tragedy occurred on August 9 on Raevsky Street. A six-year-old boy was passing by an old garage when a brick wall suddenly collapsed on him. Rescuers promptly arrived on the scene and cleared the debris, but the child died.

      It was also reported that Bastrykin demanded a report on the progress of the investigation into the child’s death in Avtozavod.
