Volunteers of Victory congratulated World War II veteran Mikhail Filatov on his 95th birthday.
On August 15, Great Patriotic War veteran and honorary veteran of Nizhny Novgorod Mikhail Yakovlevich Filatov celebrated his 95th birthday. On that day, activists from the “Volunteers of Victory” movement visited the celebrant to extend congratulations and words of sincere gratitude.
Mikhail Yakovlevich began working at GAZ in 1948, rising from a repair fitter to a highly skilled specialist. In 1952–1953, as part of the NKVD special troops, he took part in the liquidation of bandit formations on the western borders of the USSR. After his service he returned to the factory, where he worked for almost 40 years.
For many years of labor and active public work, Mikhail Filatov has been awarded the titles “Veteran of the Great Patriotic War,” “Veteran of Labor,” and “Veteran of the Automotive Industry.” Even after retiring, for 17 years he helped pensioners and held patriotic meetings with young people.
“Every meeting with a veteran is a living lesson of history. Today we were once again convinced of this when we congratulated our dear Mikhail Yakovlevich — a true hero whose life is an example of selfless service to the Motherland. Our task is not simply to preserve the memory of the feat, but to pass it on in such a way that it ignites the hearts of the younger generation,” said Maria Samodelkina, head of the NRO VOD “Volunteers of Victory.”
On his birthday the volunteers sang his favorite songs with the celebrant and presented him with a gift. The veteran addressed special words of gratitude to the younger generation, emphasizing the importance of preserving the memory of the older generations’ deeds.
