Since the beginning of 2025, 7,750 people in the Nizhny Novgorod region have sought medical help after tick bites, including 2,268 children, the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor reports.
As of 14 August, cases have been recorded in 49 municipal districts and eight districts of Nizhny Novgorod.
The most reports came from the Pavlovsky district (515), Dzerzhinsk (416), Bor (374), Gorodets (284), Vetluga (268), Shakhunya (266), Kstovo (234), Uren (221), Vyksa (205) and Semyonov (194). In Nizhny Novgorod itself, residents of the Avtozavodsky (613), Prioksky (482), Leninsky (477) and Sovetsky (385) districts complained most often.
Most often ticks attacked people at dachas and in villages. Bites also occurred in forests and on adjacent residential grounds. Less often — in parks, squares and cemeteries. There were single cases at beaches, in sanatoriums and other public places.
After bites, emergency prophylaxis with immunoglobulin was given to 1,302 people, of whom 1,250 were children.
Laboratories examined 8,276 ticks, of which 7,844 were removed from people. Pathogens were found in the ticks in 17.9% of cases.
The most dangerous ticks were found in Shakhunsky, Krasnobakovsky, Bogorodsky, Urensky, Pavlovsky, Tonkinsky, Vachsky, Tonshaevsky and Sharangsky districts.
To date, five cases of tick-borne encephalitis have been confirmed. Two of them occurred in Vyksa and Varnavinsky districts. The others followed trips to Ivanovo Oblast, Altai Krai and Karelia.
In addition, 102 cases of borreliosis were registered, including seven children.
A total of 10,866 people were vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis, including 1,541 children.
Earlier it was reported that eight water bodies have been approved for swimming in Nizhny Novgorod.
