The Federal Security Service of Russia prevented attempts by Ukraine to establish production of the ballistic missile systems "Sapsan," capable of striking up to 750 kilometers deep into Russian territory, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the FSB, plans to create and use these operational-tactical systems were thwarted in cooperation with the Russian Armed Forces. In addition, strikes were carried out against Ukrainian defense enterprises that took part in the development of the "Sapsan" systems.

The released materials include a map of the possible missile range if launched from Ukrainian territory. According to these data, Moscow, Minsk, and other major cities fell within the strike radius.

The report pays special attention to the city of Sarov in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This settlement, known as a center for the development of Russian nuclear weapons, would also have been within range of the "Sapsans."

Located in Sarov is the Russian Federal Nuclear Center — the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC-VNIIEF), which is part of the state corporation Rosatom.

The institute was founded in 1946 as part of the Soviet atomic program. The country's first domestic atomic and hydrogen bombs were developed here. Today VNIIEF remains the largest scientific and technical center in the country, performing a wide range of tasks in the defense, scientific and civilian sectors.

A key focus of its activity continues to be the development and refinement of nuclear weapons, ensuring the implementation of Russia's nuclear deterrence policy.

Earlier it was reported that a Nizhny Novgorod resident was sentenced to nine years in a penal colony for participating in a Ukrainian armed formation.
