Three men who made an illegal tap into the Almetyevsk — Nizhny Novgorod oil pipeline in the Lyskovsky district were detained in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region reported.
According to the press service, in June 2024 the police received information from a representative of an oil transportation company about a possible unauthorized tap into the pipeline. An inspection of the scene near the village of Lyapuny in the Lyskovsky district uncovered a pit about a meter deep. A 98-meter hose leading from the pipe was found with traces of liquid, presumed to be diesel fuel. The hose extended into a field and was partially buried.
In early August 2025 officers from the criminal investigation department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod region and the Lyskovsky police department (OMVD "Lyskovsky"), supported by SOBR units of the National Guard, detained three men suspected of attempted theft. They were identified as a 57-year-old resident of the Kstovsky district, previously convicted for a similar crime, and two residents of Nizhny Novgorod, aged 30 and 31, who had no prior run-ins with the law.
The investigation established that the detainees acted in premeditated collusion. They arrived at kilometer 545 of the oil pipeline and attempted to connect to the pipe to steal oil belonging to JSC "Transneft-Mrikamye". However, their actions were intercepted in time.
Criminal cases have been opened on counts of attempted theft and illegal tapping of pipelines. The maximum punishment under these articles is up to six years of imprisonment.
The court ordered house arrest for the 57-year-old defendant. The other suspects have been prohibited from certain actions during the investigation.
Earlier it was reported that the police detained a gang that had kidnapped a Nizhny Novgorod resident for extortion.
