Nizhny Novgorod Region is introducing AI services into the public administration system.

      The Nizhny Novgorod region presented 16 digital solutions developed in the region using artificial intelligence technologies intended to improve the efficiency of public administration. The presentation took place as part of the first strategic session of the AI Development Center under the Government of Russia, whose activities are overseen by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Grigorenko.

      Regional developments were described by the Minister of Digital Development and Communications of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Alexander Sinelobov. The session was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia, leaders of the largest domestic AI companies, as well as delegations from regions leading in digital transformation.

      According to the minister, the Nizhny Novgorod solutions cover a wide range of tasks: from monitoring the condition of street infrastructure and detecting land-use violations to recording changes in forest stands and finding lost pets.

      One striking example was the "Digital City Guard" project, which ensures control over the observance of public order. The system records violations such as riding an electric scooter in prohibited places, walking dogs without a leash, and smoking in prohibited areas. The pilot launch is currently being carried out in two parks of Nizhny Novgorod — Victory Park and Sverdlov Park.

      Alexander Sinelobov noted that the Nizhny Novgorod region was among the first to begin integrating neural networks into public administration processes, with particular attention paid to the security of personal data. The already operational video surveillance system with AI elements helped increase crime detection rates by 30% and reduce the level of street crime by 34%. In addition, it automatically detects more than five types of violations, including overflowing garbage containers and untimely waste removal.

      All practices presented at the session will be thoroughly analyzed, and the most successful among them will receive recommendations for implementation in other regions of the country.

      The regional Ministry of Digital Development emphasized that the Nizhny Novgorod region actively cooperates with ANO "Digital Economy" — a key platform for the development of digital technologies in Russia. Within the framework of the cooperation, the region not only tests new AI solutions but also shares its developments for scaling at the federal level.

      Such a partnership makes it possible to record the region's achievements in the field of artificial intelligence and to receive expert evaluation of projects, which contributes to their improvement and further dissemination.

      The development of AI services is part of the tasks of the new national project "Data Economy and Digital Transformation of the State", which started on 1 January 2025 at the instruction of President Vladimir Putin.

      This project is the successor to "Digital Economy" and is aimed at creating a favorable environment for the use of domestic AI technologies in business and public administration, providing a qualitatively new level of efficiency.
