The Semenovsky water utility was caught polluting the Belbazh River.

      Sewage discharged by the municipal enterprise "Gorvodokanal" in Semyonov is having a harmful effect on the Belbazh River. This conclusion was reached by specialists from the interregional department of Rosprirodnadzor for Nizhny Novgorod Oblast and the Republic of Mordovia after an unscheduled inspection, the department's press service reported.

      It was established that the enterprise operates sewage treatment facilities and networks in the village of Ilyino‑Zaborskoye without the necessary permits for use of the water body. Wastewater samples showed exceedances of permissible concentrations for a number of pollutants.

      In addition, the water utility violates requirements in the field of waste management. The organization does not have approved waste generation standards or limits for their disposal. The wastes are not classified by hazard level, and record‑keeping is carried out with violations.

      Violations were also found in the area of atmospheric air protection. The enterprise has not conducted an inventory of pollution sources, there are no calculations of permissible emissions, and no plan has been developed to reduce harmful emissions in the event of adverse weather conditions.

      The inspection also showed that the water utility failed to comply with a number of mandatory requirements of environmental protection legislation. In particular, information about the facility having a negative impact on the environment was not updated, a declaration on such impact was not submitted, and an environmental control program for production was not developed.

      A total of 12 violations were recorded during the inspection. The enterprise was ordered to eliminate them by October of this year.

      In the near future, the legal entity and the responsible employees will be brought to administrative responsibility.

      Earlier it was reported that a court ordered Semyonov's municipal budgetary institution "City Improvement" to pay 4.1 million for soil contamination in the area of the village of Medvedevo.
