Nizhny Novgorod Region ranked 65th in the country for road accident rates.

      Nizhny Novgorod Oblast ranked 65th in the ranking of Russian regions by road accident rates. The study was prepared by analysts at RIA Novosti based on official statistics from the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation (MVD) for the first half of 2025.

      The ranking was compiled taking into account the number of road traffic accidents with casualties per 100,000 registered vehicles — this calculation includes passenger and freight cars as well as buses.

      In Nizhny Novgorod Oblast this indicator amounted to 118 road accidents with casualties per 100,000 units of transport. Compared with the same period in 2024, the number of such accidents increased by 4%. In addition, the region recorded 88.7 people injured in traffic accidents per 100,000 residents.

      Across the country, 55.9 thousand accidents with casualties were registered in January–June 2025, which is 0.7% fewer than in the same period last year. An overall decrease in the number of fatalities (by 2.8%) and the injured (by 1%) was also noted.

      The fewest road accidents with casualties were recorded in Chechnya, Tyumen Oblast and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The worst regions by this indicator are Tuva, Kostroma Oblast and Kalmykia.

      Earlier it was reported that 1,976 road accidents occurred in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast since the beginning of the year. They killed 137 people.
