The overwhelming majority of residents of Nizhny Novgorod Region aged over 26 support restricting the sale of vapes and e-cigarettes. According to a July study conducted by the ANO "Institute for Demographic Development" together with the company "Insomar," 81% of respondents in this age group approve of the proposed ban.
At the same time, young people aged 14 to 25 mainly show a neutral or positive stance. Almost half of those surveyed (48%) answered that they "don't care," which, researchers say, may indicate a desire to distance themselves from other people's problems and an unwillingness to impose their point of view.
The older generation gave more considered reasons for their position. Some 52% of respondents cited the health risks of smoking, 23% were concerned about the impact on children and adolescents, and 8% pointed to the risks of secondhand smoke.
The study's authors emphasize that vapes and e-cigarettes have become part of young people's daily lives, alongside fast food and digital technologies. Many young people do not perceive vaping as a serious addiction like alcoholism or drug addiction. Even when they play sports and take care of their health, some continue to smoke.
Evgeny Zhuravlyov, director of the Institute for Demographic Development, noted that the effects of vape use are delayed in nature, which makes them especially dangerous.
"If we start acting now, in a few years we could have a generation free from this harmful habit. Unfortunately, regions do not yet have the authority to introduce such restrictions," Zhuravlyov emphasized.
Earlier, the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, expressed support for banning vapes. He said that electronic smoking devices have become widespread even in schools and noted their serious impact on teenagers' health.
"This is not just a trendy gadget — it is a powerful addiction, both psychological and physiological. The harm is obvious, and any doctor will tell you that," the regional head stressed.
Recall that the head of the Gorodetsky District, Alexander Mudrov, spoke out against the spread of e-cigarettes.
